How to prepare for your

in-home newborn session

Congratulations on booking your in-home newborn session!

Here's some info regarding what to do to prepare.

Setting Up Props

I set up props near the best natural light. Natural light is always beautiful for newborn sessions, so when I get to your home, I'll look for the best spot.

This is always near a large window or door. I have also set up on a covered patio deck area.

I bring flooring with me, so you don't need to worry about your flooring, or if you home is really tidy etc, as this is not captured in the prop images. Sometimes, I move furniture, to get the best spot.

For Baby

Newborn sessions always go best, when bubs is settled and has been fed. So, if possible, feed bubs before I arrive. However, babies don't always want to be on our timetable and that's okay, so please don't worry if bubs is not fed and settled by the time I arrive.

Most newborn sessions involve us stopping to feed bubs at some point and that's okay. We also may need to stop for nappy change, cuddles and some time for bubs to settle.

I'm a baby-led photographer and very easy going and I just go with the flow with babies. Whatever bubs needs, is what we do. If bubs needs some cuddles, we do that. If bubs needs to feed, we do that.

For Parents & Siblings

If you are including parent/siblings images, I suggest waiting until we are ready for those images, before wearing the clothing you want in the images. The last thing we want is bubs throwing upon your outfit, or big brother getting his clothes dirty! So just wear your comfy clothes until we are ready to capture those beautiful parent and sibling images.

For Family Images

For family images with parents and/or siblings, I use areas of your home. This can be against a blank wall, sitting on your sofa, sitting/lying on your bed, using bubs' room, out on your patio. Wherever is best for light, is where we capture those images. If you would like to include your bed, bubs' room, please have those ready, with all distracting object removed. Don't worry too much about this though, I can help remove items if needed.
